Lesley’s Profile

I trained in ceramics and 3D design at Farnham Art School followed by a PGCE .

After some experience in other workshops I set up Bartley Heath Pottery with my husband Mick. I then combined making pots and teaching art to make a living and after leaving teaching retrained as an art therapist at Roehampton.

As a teacher I worked using different mediums, and with reference to the work of other artists and cultures. At home I contributed to the existing range of thrown ware, according to the varying demands of teaching.

I decided to teach only an occasional workshop, and concentrate on making pots. These were based around random mark making to determine the shape. An interest in rocks and how they are formed into fascinating shapes, through time and events, resonated. Demonstrations always stimulate a desire to try new things so I progress slowly through various methods of glazing and firing with shapes developed from rock forms. Most recently I have been experimenting with naked raku to produce my ‘Cloud Pots’.
